Book Review ~ 10 Things Every Minister's Wife Needs To Know

When I was asked if I might be interested in reading this book I thought to myself, "sure, I can do that" and never really thought twice about it.  I guess I figured that after being in the ministry and married to a Pastor for seven years it might be something I could breeze through and add to my library.

What I wasn't expecting was how radically this book would capture my heart.  There were so many pages that had more underlined than not underlined, so many notes in the margin and so much wisdom packed into this little book.  I forced myself to read it slowly so I could absorb each chapter and be able to process/apply what I was reading and learning.

With chapters like;
  • The Secret to Survival,
  • Remember Who You Are,
  • It Ain't That Hard,
  • Love the Man You Married,
  • Balance is the Key,
  • Let the Men Be the Men,
  • It's KOOL2BAPK,
  • Let it Go: Dealing with Criticism, Conflict and Unforgiveness
  • Relationships Matter
  • Learn from the Past, Live in the Present, and Trust God for the Future
Truly, there is something for every woman who is married to the ministry, either as a Pastor's Wife or Staff Wife, to walk away with and apply to her life.

Jeana's words are sincere, kind, loving and from the heart and just what you would expect if you were to sit down over a cup of coffee with her and she was to pass on her words of wisdom for being a Minister's Wife.

I have to first I wasn't sure what to expect...would this be like every other Pastor's Wife book I have read in the past?  Would the expectations be so high for me as a PW that I could never live up to them?

Thankfully it wasn't and because it wasn't I have been completely blown away by this book.  The wisdom, the heart, and the love that pours from her heart to other PW's just leaps off the page.

I've already started calling my other friends in the ministry to tell them about this book.  What an incredible resource for women in ministry...whether they are veteran PW's or brand new ministry wives...this is a perfect book for them!

Here's a little bit from the back of the book;
A strong marriage plays a pivotal role in the success of a ministry.  Being the wife of a minister can be tremendously rewarding, but it also a commitment of time, personal investment, and patience.  Ministry is a challenging vocation, even in the best of times.

Jeana Floyd knows these challenges well and has created this faith-affirming guide for pastors' wives. Sharing years of wisdom and insight from her participation in her husband's growing and visionary ministry, 10 Things Every Minister's Wife Needs To Know is filled with practical tips on marriage, prayer, stewardship, parenting, and faith. With "interactive testimonies" included from other wives of pastors at the end of each chapter, the book shares poignant and powerful insights any woman or wife can appreciate.

If you or someone you know is married to a Pastor then you need to tell them about this incredible little book.  It would be fabulous to do as a study with other Pastor's Wives, as a mentoring book study one on one with another Pastor's Wife, or just a sweet little gift of encouragement for a new Pastor's Wife.
