Speak to My Soul Sunday ~ Be The Light

Photo from Melissa Mashburn ~ Lighthouse in St. George Island, FL

For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. ~ Ephesians 5:8-9 NLT

There are some things that are just harder to do that they are to say. You know what I mean, it’s one of those “easier said than done” type things. Remember those sayings your mom used to say to you over and over again that you swore you would never, not in a million years, say to your own kids. Then one day when the kids were acting up and you were at your wits end the words just slipped right out of your mouth.

That’s what it is sort of like when you look at the verse above. Yes, we were once full of darkness, and if you were like me it was a pitch black darkness, but living in the light isn’t as easy as it sounds. Let’s face it; we live in a world that is telling us that it’s ok to only think about yourself. Everywhere you turn there is an ad, article, billboard, commercial telling you that you need to be happy and to do whatever it takes to make that happen. My goodness…there is so much temptation at every turn that when you do take a stand and stop living like the world everyone just looks at you like you are nuts.

Or do they?

Yes, some of them will think you are weird and others will be intrigued by what you are doing. Why are you acting different?

I love that Paul doesn’t mince words. I can totally relate to that. I want to get right to the point and the point is this…if you claim to be a Christian and you are living your life for Him, then you need to be different. You ARE the light! Not because of anything that you did (or even can do) but because He lives inside you. You and I are to BE THE LIGHT that our world so desperately needs. Is it easy, no…I wish it was, but is it worth it, you bet it is!

Every time we shine His light into this dark and decaying world we give Him glory and start to BE THE LIGHT that He created us to be. Come on, turn on your light and let it SHINE brightly for Him!

Father God, we want to shine our light for you, but there is so much against us each and every day. Help us Father, to let go of our fears and grab ahold of your faithfulness. We’re ready to Be the Light in this dark world. Grab ahold of our hearts and show us where to begin. We love you Father, in Jesus precious and powerful name, Amen.

Yes... I want the light of Jesus to shine so brightly in me that others need some holy shades to check it out. :)
