Update on Mom

(My mom, Regina, and I at her chemo appt. last week)

For anyone and everyone who didn't or doesn't know, my mom was diagnosed at the beginning of March 2009 with Breast Cancer. They caught it early, were able to go in and get it all out, but when the pathology reports came back they said that the "type" of cancer she has is VERY aggressive we knew the next words would be chemo.

So, here we are...3 chemo treatments in to her calendar of 8 treatments and mom is doing pretty good. She is such an incredible women and amazing mom. I absolutely hate it that she is having to deal with this, but I also know that there have been amazing things happening in all of our lives because of it.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. ~ Psalm 28:7 NIV

Please continue to pray for mom, she has her last chemo treatment of the "strong/bad" chemo this Friday, and although she has not been violently ill, she has lost all her hair, has ulcers in her mouth, and is generally tired from what her body is going through. She is also leaps and bounds ahead of where everyone thought she would be right now, so there are good with the bad.

There are some absolutely incredible stories in those chairs at the Breast Cancer center and every other week I am blessed to get a "peek" into the windows of their lives too. These women come together, care for each other, pray for each other, and inspire so many people in and around their lives.

I can't wait to share with you some of the heart touching stories that I walk away with when I leave there on Friday's. God is so good, and even though I wouldn't have chosen this path for my mom I can be certain that God is infinitely wiser than me and that HE has a plan for this journey.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~ Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

I'm SO sorry to hear that you mom has breast cancer - but SO glad to hear that she's doing well so far.

I had a friend diagnosed with Stage IV in December of 2007. Her PET scan in April of 2008 showed she was CLEAR. She lost all her hair and both breasts and she was very sick for many months of 2008 - BUT I saw her two days ago and she is tumor free, looking beautiful (with curly red hair) and LOVES her new "Girls" as she calls them.

God still works miracles!

Your Mother is in my thoughts and prayers.
My family, both sides, has suffered many losses to cancer, none have breast cancer, though.
It's tough. Keep your chin up. With GOD in your corner, you will make it through.

your mom looks like an incredibly strong lady! how is your grandmother? (is that right?) continuing to keep them in our prayers.

As I promised, I have continued to pray for you and your mom! I'm glad she's doing ok. Grrr cancer!

My nephew has his "limb salvaging surgery" tomorrow at St. Jude's. I pray for the doctors to be using God's hands and do what they need to do to make sure the tumor is removed and he'll be able to walk!

Such beautiful smiles! Your mom is very strong and brave.

I was offline for a few days but was anxious to see how your mom is doing. I'm so glad she's doing well under the circumstances. The Lord has His plans and how awesome to be able to minister to others going through trials like breast cancer. I'm sure you would rather not have this disease in your mom's life but you don't know if a word from you or your mom will impact another life with hope. You two have hope for eternity because of your relationship with Jesus but many do not.

When I was working as a nurse, I had so many opportunities to share the reason for the hope that was in me with others. I am praying for your mom and also ...for you, Melissa.
