Mending Fences

Today has been a day of "Mending Fences" for me...you see, two and a half years ago a friend and mentor of mine walked away from church. She was hurt, disappointed, sad, and just plain ole mad about some stuff. I didn't know "how to talk to her" (strange, because I can talk to the wall...) about it, about our friendship, about her feelings, about anything.

For the last week God has laid it upon my heart to call her and ask her forgiveness...for letting time get away from me, for not calling to talk to her, for not realizing the pain she was in. You know what I realized....friendships are so precious and so few that we SHOULD do whatever it takes to Mend the Fences that are broken.

Check out this great verse I found in the Message:
Ephesians 4:1[ To Be Mature ] In light of all this, here's what I want you to do. While I'm locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don't want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don't want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.

WOW...how great is that??? Friends...if there is ANYTHING that you read today let it be this...do NOT let your friendships fall to the side...they are a gift, they are precious, and they are important.

Right now there is someone whose name keeps popping up in your head....right? What do you need to do to MEND THE FENCE with that friend? Do you need to call them? Ask for forgiveness? Send a card? or how about even forgiving them?

Take the time to see this through...you won't regret it, really....God brought you that friend for a reason, now it's up to you to make sure that all is well with your relationship.

Go on...Mend the Fence!

Thanks for stopping by my little blog. Your post is dead on..although in my case this friend walk away from not just the church but from the Lord. I attempted to mend the fence and then she blew me away with a revelation that just about knocked me out. Now we are back to square one being: no contact. So, are there some friendships worth fighting for and others that should be best left alone?

Good question Cheryl...

I enjoyed stopping by your blog today, I will probably be around more.

As far as your question at the end of your comment...
"So, are there some friendships worth fighting for and others that should be best left alone?"
...I would say that if you have made every effort to mend the fence and make right what was wrong then sometimes you have no other choice than to walk away and move on. It's so hard to do, but there reaches a point where it is probably the right thing to do.

I remembered the song by Michael W. Smith "Friends"

Ya, I found myself singing that to myself while I was at work. Hmmm Friends are friends forever, If the Lord is Lord of them..there's my answer right there.
